I came across this post:
...and I thought - that could work. It would fit our space, it's the height we want, and we could remove the top drawer and one of the lower drawers for tv accessories that have to be in the open (mainly the sound bar and the cable box). Well, when we went to take a look at it at the seller's house, they had a slightly smaller yet similar item that wouldn't require nearly as much effort for our purposes (FYI - the original item above is still available! See the post here).
We ended up taking this puppy home:
This is all set up in our house - as you can see, the soundbar fits PERFECTLY in the top shelf, and the cable box and DVD fit perfectly in the other shelves. In a perfect world it would be slightly wider, but the depth of this piece works perfect for our space.
So now here comes the question - to paint or not to paint? The piece needs to be refinished at some point because it has a few scratches and marks on the finish. Should we stick with a stain to keep the warmth of the piece (and tie into our staircase), or should we paint - in which case, light or dark?

I love the warmth of wood, but could also see it painted like this:

And with pulls like this:

I always vote for paint!
How odd: Your post title is "What should I do with this?" about a piece of furniture that you don't quite know what to do with and... Also in my inbox: a post by another blogger I follow ('Saved by Suzy') today, entitled: 'What do I do with this?" about a piece of furniture that she doesn't know what to do with!!!
What are the chances???
Maybe there's something going around in blogland!
Hah!
Actually I love the dresser and vote for paint too!
I say paint it white but distress it a little. That way it's not too stark and still has some warmth - just a different kind.
I say paint.
Now don't ask me which way to go...light or dark...and I've literally been thinking about it for the last 6 minutes. It's hard to tell without looking at your whole room...but on a whim...I'm thinking....maybe....go...LIGHT?!
That was so hard, I totally get the position your in. Luckily it's a really great piece, so you can't go wrong!
You could go either way. I think I would paint it white and distress it slightly.
I always say go for the paint! Its a fun way to change things up in the home without spending too much!
I like the dark colour against the wall and the contrast with the rad cover as well as the dark stairs in the background. It is a good find and looks great in the space.
I think you could really do anything with it, but I like the idea of just keeping it as is. You can always paint it later!
My vote is to paint too. It's a beautiful piece (looks like it was made for that tv!) so you could go with either but I think it would definitely stand out more with a coat of fresh paint?
No wood is left unpainted when I'm around so I say paint. I totally agree with Camille's suggestion. That colour looks very similar to the Annie Sloan chalk paint I just bought to cover a sideboard. I love it!
