Friday faves - What I'm wearing with my pregnant belly!

Happy Friday!

It has been another busy week...each week is ticking by closer to my due date at the end of September (I am 35 weeks right now...or 8 3/4 months...getting up there)! Some things have come together in the nursery but there are some tricky things to figure out (anyone know a good place to take a rug to be cleaned / de-oderized??) and a lot of other things to finish up.

I have been taking photos throughout my pregnancy and looking back the changes are amazing! I'll post a series of photos once I get them organized...until then here are some of my favourite outfits that I've been wearing to work during my pregnancy:

1. Tahari Dress, The Bay
2. H&M navy blazer, H&M Mama white t-shirt; Mossimo striped skirt (Target)
3. Merona Floral dress (Target)

All of these outfits (except the white t-shirt) are non-maternity items. I have found if I go up a size or two and the cut is right I can generally wear whatever I want for stretchy skirts and dresses (which is amazing). I was also lucky enough for a great friend to give me a huge lot of maternity and non-maternity clothes that I can wear to supplement my own finds above. Here's another fun Target mint and gray maternity tshirt (and a shot of my shower curtain!):

Enjoy the last weekend of August!!

Friday faves - coloured pencils

I'm writing this in advance because last night was the IDS2013 gala...I'm sure that I had a great time and won't be writing a blog post at 7am the morning following...but I did have something fun to share so I decided to schedule it in advance to share the love.

Without further ado - happy Friday (as I'm writing this I WISH it was Friday already...I'm positive "present" me is glad it's finally here).

Sometimes the stuff at Anthropologie just isn't me...I'm more profesh then hippie, and given that I work 5 days a week as a Corporate-Connie most of my closet leans towards work clothes. I am on Anthro's email list because I like their pretty stuff, and this week's email about pencil skirts GOT ME. Love these and am definitely digging all the colour.

And with that I bid adieu; Happy weekend all!

Friday faves

It's Friday....it never fails to come again but sometimes I wish it could come so much sooner!

I came across this beautiful pillow earlier this week and thought it would look amazing on my to-be-upholstered chair:

Pretty, right? $128 pretty? hmm...meanwhile I'm trying to find a christmas party dress for under $150. ha...pillow? dress? pillow? dress?

Life is all about tough choices people.

Happy Friday!

Friday faves: Fall edition

Happy Friday folks! Although it's warmed up this week, last weekend and the beginning of this week definitely had a fall flavour, non? Maybe it's because I was eating soup three meals a day to help conquer strep throat, but even hot days have cool nights now. It's not quite fall but it's coming.

Here's what I'm looking forward to...
- jeans, boots, scarves
- wearing my classic trench with my new teal structured bag
- comfort food - risotto, roasts, tagines...yumm
- baking - I don't feel bad baking when it's nice enough to take the chill out of the air while the windows are open
- project living room! We got a new sectional couch and now need to bring the rest of the room up to par

What are your favourite things about fall?

Friday Faves - 2012 Olympics

Do you love the Olympics? There is something about it that gets people talking, and gets people watching and loving sport. Nothing like a little patriotic fever to get people together, right?

I am partial to gymnastics and diving events, but I'll also be trying to catch tennis and swimming (swimming is always exciting!). What's your favourite summer olympic event?

Friday faves: PicMonkey

Do you use PicMonkey? It is an online photo editing software with a tagline of "Fearless photo embetterment".

Love it!

Basically it's free, dead easy to use, and has a great range of effects. I've used it mainly to do collages for the 'ol blog like these:

PicMonkey provides templates for collages and lets you overlay collages or photos with text, or labels like the crumpled paper below

PicMonkey is SO easy to use and I love the collage options it offers! Here is what the dashboard looks like:

There are also a range of photo editing tools that you can use to touch up your photos, or add instagram-ish effects to them. The options really are varied and broad.

I think it adds a lot to photos, so if you have some time to play around with it head on over! Otherwise, have a great July weekend everyone :)

*Full disclosure: I was not sponsored for this post, I just think it's a really good product and wanted to let people know about it!

Friday faves - pin-to-the-rest

Hello Friday!! I love short weeks, don't you?

This week I was pinning a fair bit over on Pinterest and I realized that I pin a lot...but I rarely go back through my pins to see what I have! So I did just that and picked some of my favourite pins for this week's Friday Faves.

Enjoy the eye candy :) (All images via my Pinterest - if you are going to Pin anything please go to either my Pinterest page or the source to repin)

How do you like that pretty?

Happy weekend all.

Friday faves - some like it hot

Toronto has been in a major heat wave this week...it is supposed to "cool off" today to a high of only 25 C. I think the humidity is what's been killing it this week...but I have been SO grateful for the air conditioner we had installed in the spring! It's unreal what a difference it makes - it really removes the humidity in the air. We'll have the windows open again when things cool down, but it has made sleeping, blogging, and just general LIFE within our house a pleasure this week.

If you need to cool down, here are some of my favourite ideas:
via - Nothing beats a cool, citrusy drink
via - sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

Friday faves - sweet summer strawberries

It's June friends, which means Ontario strawberries are out in all their glory! When we were leaving Ottawa we saw some for sale on the side of the road and I was devastated that we were $0.50 cents short of a quart price...and obviously they don't take cash. Fortunately for us, we picked some up at the grocery store (that were still local juice amazingess). I'm a fan of strawberries - those that read my blog regularly may remember posts here and here about them (might have to make another galette this year)...I just can't resist their goodness.

So on this sunny June Friday, happy strawberry season y'all.

Friday faves: Shiny things

Today's Friday Faves is going to be a wee bit different...instead of inspiration pics, it's going to be my favourite outcome of the week.

Remember when I got that cute silver (REAL silver) cup at the yard sale? Well, I had some silver polish that I had yet to use on some of my grandmother's candlesticks and got to work. Have you used silver polish? This stuff is like an infomercial - rub it on, rub it off, and you have delightful, shiny things. Love it!

Seriously? Who knew it was so easy...here are the candlesticks:

And, all together now:

Happy Friday (and happy June) lovelies!

Friday faves - setting the table

Another happy Friday to you folks! So happy it's the weekend...we have a birthday celebration for a friend tonight, a little weekend visit planned to see some friends and their daughter tomorrow, and then hopefully spending time outside puttzing around in the garden in the sun or maybe visiting the driving range for the rest of the weekend.

It's been a little while since I've had a dinner party but I'm always intrigued by lovely table settings. When I was young and had to set the table my favourite part was coming up with "unique" ways of folding the (paper) napkins! Too funny...maybe one of these will inspire a nice mother's day setting for you?
Here are some of my faves that I would love to try:

via NJS Design Events - How to Set a Table - isn't this SO useful?

Is this not the cutest napkin display you ever have seen? I want to do this.

via Homes - simple and cute, love the quatre foil plate

via Style Me Pretty - Love this (great use for all my old wine corks!)

These mini wood stumps are also a cute idea, and would look great on this table:
or this one:
via - Chalkboard place settings - how cute is that?
via - I am going gaga for this colour combo and the linen runners!
Anyone want to come for a dinner party so I can try them out? :) Hope you all have a great weekend.

Friday faves - black and wood

Today I'm happy to announce that we have a guest poster in for Friday Faves! It has been one long week so this couldn't have come at a better time for me.

I've been thinking of doing a Friday Faves on black for a WHILE now but didn't know quite how to narrow it down...in came Jessica with a suggestion to focus on Black and Wood - genius. Enjoy, and happy weekend!

--

Hello! I’m Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a website and blog with a wonderful selection of affordable light fixtures and interior design inspirations every day! I’m delighted to be guest posting for Heather today because I'm going to sharing a chic, contemporary combination in interior design – the color black and wood textures. The crisp, stark quality of the color black contrasts beautifully with the grain and texture of wood. I hope you find these interiors as unique and inspiring as I do!
Pendant Lighting
This spacious apartment shows just how serene and stylish minimalism can be when it comes to interior design. From the bare wooden floorboards to the rugged wooden furniture, this apartment is grounded and earthy with simple black, modern accents.
Pendant Lighting
The black stacking chairs make wonderful accents on this bright and airy patio. The weathered floorboards lend a bit of rustic beauty to the charming and playful décor.
Den Lighting Fixtures
I love the varying types of wood in this eclectic dining room. The contemporary pendant lights are certainly eye-catching and unique.
Bedroom Lighting
The cool, modern atmosphere in this bedroom comes from having just enough dark moody colors and bright open windows. The black frames throughout the room and dark hardwood floor are beautiful against the dusty blue walls and crisp, white curtains.
Living Room Pendant Lighting
Black furniture and dark wood floors create a great contrast with the brighter walls and ceiling in this lovely living room. A single black pendant light makes a great focal point.
Pendant Lighting
The black and white color palette of this home is quite dramatic, yet the matte colors are broken up by the wood textures that show through. The red ceiling light, cow skin rug and exposed ceiling beams add a burst of color.
Table Lamp
The traditional style of this bedroom demonstrates the beauty of classic simplicity. The mix of colors is grounded with the black accents and wooden floor for a lovely effect.
Dining Room Chandelier
The black industrial shelves in this quirky dining room stand out against the bright green wall and help showcase the white pottery. Plenty of wood features keep the room fresh and natural.
