Festive flair - part 2

As promised, today we'll take a look at our tree! We have a fake tree, which makes me a little sad because NOTHING beats a real tree (well, nothing except no watering, no falling over, no needles falling...but I digress). Anyhoo, we have a new fake tree that I bought last year on boxing day (amazing deal at good old Canadian Tire). This was its first time out of the box - and all the lights work!  This also marked our first chance to belt out holiday tunes like it was our job...and that we did.

Our tree skirt is makeshift for this year (an as-is Ikea curtain pooled at the bottom...) but I didn't think that a tree skirt would be a good first sewing project to test my skills on! To my own surprise (and delight) all the tree skirts in Style at Home this month are pooled, so I must have been on top of things.
I have a number of ornaments from a wonderful tradition that my grandmother started - she gave me and my sister an ornament each year up until a couple of years ago. She wanted to make sure that we had ornaments so when we moved out and had a tree of our own, we would have something to put on it. I love this idea, and we looked forward to those ornaments every year. We complemented those ornaments with a collection of glass balls. I love having the tree on at night - the glisten of the lights adds the perfect touch to our living room.

You see, your tree looks real to me!! Maybe it;'s it's fullness compared to mine - our fake tree is soo skinny! I love the amount of ornaments you have and that most of them were gifts, that is SUCH a great idea!! I always thought when I moved out I'd get a pre-lit tree, so I'm glad to hear all your lights work!! That would be so annoying if they didn't. The makeshift treeskirt looks awesome, too! Great job, and a perfect Christmas touch to your lovely living room!

What a great tradition that your grandmother started! It's nice to have ornaments that mean something. Great job on the tree skirt too!

So pretty! I made a tree skirt last year after 20 years of pooling fabric. It is easy peasy!

The tree looks great, and I love your ornaments! That is a great tradition that your grandmother started. I started buying pretty ornaments is after Christmas sales back when I was in University, so B and I had some to start off with, and we usually pick up a few new ones every year now!

The tree looks lovey! Last year we started the tradition that everyone gets to buy one special ornament, I forgot until my son reminded me, lol

I, too, have recently converted to a fake tree. (unfortunately I'm deathly allergic to mould and eventually ALL real trees get mouldy). But I burn some lovely pine scented candles to fake it! Hah! Your tree is lovely and that idea of giving a decoration each year is perfect!

Great job on the tree! Loved seeing it in a couple parts, it took us a week to finish decorating and I'm on a mad dash for a tree star tomorrow before a party!
