I.Love.Summer.
I was in Ottawa this weekend to attend a beautiful shower for a friend who is expecting twins (!!) -identical girl twins (if you want to hear more, check out her blog: Calmly Chaotic). It's so exciting, and her and her husband are ecstatic. Knowing my friend and how inevitably stylish she is (even with twins on the way), I figured I had to do something beyond the usual bag-tissue-paper-card combo for her gift. I also get irked by the amount of waste created by wrapping gifts -- but love the aesthetic of a beautifully wrapped gift. Oh the conundrum.
By chance, I came across this lovely post from For the Love blog with a How-to for making fabric bows. Amazing? I think so. I made a test one and loved the outcome, so decided to take it and run with it. Add some pink ribbon for colour and some kraft paper for wrapping and I was all set.
This is what you do after you cut your fabric strips (I found this instruction was missing from the How-to). You staple each strip into a figure 8, and then glue them one on top of the other like this:
This is what you end up with - cute, non? If you think you recognize the fabrics, you're right. The one on the top right is the same as our bedroom bench, and the other two use fabric from our ill-fated first attempt at an upholstered headboard. Here is the finished product:
I'm pretty sure this is going to be my go-to wrapping for any and all gifts leaving my hands in the near future.
Happy Monday (let's hope for a quick week, ok??)

LOVE the pink ribbon to add some punch! Great work :)
I love loved your wrapping job! (I saved the bows!!). Very unique indeed. It was great to see you too!
Love this - especially the pink ribbon wrapped casually around the kraft paper. Too cute ;)
This is awesome. U usually feel pretty proud of myself if I remember to BUY a bow. Now you've forced me to rethink my lazy strategy:)
Those are great! The pink ribbon looks fab.
Thanks for the sweet comment Heather! I love finding new blogs, especially ones with DIY ideas like yours. I'm also a present/ gift wrapping- aholic so this particular post got me really excited. I also have a drawer full of scrap fabric that would be perfect for this!
Just found your lovely blog....and I'm LOVING this wrap job. Can't wait to use it on a gift.
PS: I'm a fellow Canadian blogger too.....so nice to "meet" a local in this big blogosphere.
