101: thumbs up

I think this week's episode of Sarah101 was one of my favourites so far. In general I think the design will work for the family. Of course I have my own personal thoughts of what I like and don't, but this episode gets a thumbs up.

One random comment - the dress Sarah was wearing at the beginning of this week's episode with the patterned border / neckline? Love it! Cute option for an intro to spring.

Now onto the room...

I like the colours. Although gray and yellow is nothing new, I like the fabric and rug choices.  She sewed 2 smaller rugs together (I think from West Elm) to get the size she wanted for the room. Pretty creative solution for a long and narrow space. Although the patterns didn't lineup perfectly, with the furniture in place you don't even notice.  The only potential downside to that rug is that it's quite light in colour...and with a 2 year old running around it may have a short life span! But really, gray and white zebra - loved it. The light fixture in the dining room is very similar to some Moroccan-influenced ones at Homesense right now. I saw someone leaving with 2 huge perforated metal light fixtures and some flashy cushions a couple of weeks ago, and I thought it would be a great combination for a covered patio space. The one feature I wasn't crazy about was the grasscloth on the walls. I don't think the bamboo tones really do anything for the room, and would have personally been happier with good old paint.

Overall, this episode is a great example of what you can do with a long, narrow, open concept space. When we were looking for our house we noticed this floor plan is extremely common in Toronto homes. This is definitely the best use of that space we've seen!

So happy I found your blog from Strictly Simple Style! Bummer that we don't see this show here - looks like a good one!

Our little house in the Beach was long and narrow and definitely tricky to design around. I haven't seen her show for a while so I like your updates. Now I'm dying to see the little dress. Think spring! Carol
